Humility is a large part of the Australian psyche and thus we have annual awards for our silent giants.

“The Australian Honours and Awards system provides the people of Australia the opportunity to recognise and say 'thank you' to those whose efforts make our communities and our nation a better place.”

His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd)

Last week The Australian newspaper to surveyed its readers to identify the unsung heroes, “Some readers, wisely, nominated the “virus detectives’’ — the lab technicians, contact tracers and epidemiologists racing against the clock day after day to stay ahead of the pandemic — to be Australians of the Year.” (click here for some fun science songs). Regular readers know that when it comes to praise and gratitude, whilst it is essential to be honest, and specific. Please remember some people will want public praise, while others will prefer more discrete acknowledgment.
